Now that you have had your free initial consultation and signed our retainer to hire us as your law firm for your bankruptcy case, what comes next?

The Review & Sign appointment is a two-hour appointment offered via zoom or in person at one of our locations. This appointment is exactly what it sounds like! The attorney, along with the legal assistant or paralegal assigned to your case, will sit down with you to review your entire petition and the documents needed to file your case.

We will send you a checklist ahead of this appointment so you know exactly what is required to put your case together. The process can be intimidating; however, you are never left guessing as to what happens next. We provide a clear outline of the documents needed and instructions/follow-up along the way. Once you gather the required documents, you will send them to your legal team so they can prepare a draft of your case for this appointment. We offer email-sending, fax, uploading them to a secure portal or dropping them off at a location near you. Therefore, even if you are not tech savvy, we have options!

During the Review & Sign appointment, we will make corrections and going over a draft of your petition. The petition is the official document filed with the court to declare your bankruptcy case. It includes all of your assets, all of your creditors, and other financial information that you disclose under penalty of perjury; all the information must be truthful and accurate. During this two-hour meeting, we carefully review each detail of your case and address all of your questions and concerns.

Following the R&S, your legal team will make final revisions to the draft and ensure it is ready to file. Then, the petition is sent to your final review and approval. We will never file your case without your permission. Once the petition is approved by you, we will electronically file your case with the bankruptcy court. This typically occurs within 2–3 days after the Review & Sign appointment.
